Finding God in the storm...

As I look out my kitchen window, I see a storm is coming. The trees are bending, our U.S. flag is waving in the wind, the melody of the windchimes fill the air, and dark clouds race across the sky.

I'm reminded of the storms in Haiti - the rain hitting the tin roofs making it almost impossible to talk, the quickness with which the rain pools and becomes fast flowing rivers on the edge of the roads, the villagers leaving the market resigned to the long, wet walk home. A storm in Haiti is a dramatic change to the day.

How do you face the storms in life? Head on? Out in it feeling the energy and power? Or do you retreat inside choosing to focus your energy inward? Do you make space for the Spirit in the storm? Do you listen and wait for God's whisper of guidance?

Haiti is weathering a storm. Today, let us pray that our friends feel God's presence and love in the quiet whispers of the wind and in the pounding of the rain on a tin roof. May it be so.
