A Reminder of God's Grace

In the face of all the media about Haiti this weekend…a reminder of the beauty of the Haitian people. A reminder of the faith of the Haitian people. A reminder of God’s grace in Haiti. A reminder that the Holy Spirit is at work in Haiti.

And with the media coverage of Haiti…a reminder of the danger of a single story. As Chimamanda Adichie tells us, “the single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete.” Haiti is filled with those who would give you the proverbial shirt off their back - filled with people who would give you their last bit of rice and beans, their last bit of fish, their last gourde if you were in need.

Haiti is also filled with those who are hungry and frustrated and struggling to make it day to day. Haiti is also filled with those who are afraid for the future.

As people of faith, we stand with all of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. As people of faith, we pray for peace and resolution. As people of faith, we open our hearts and eyes that we may see the many, many stories of Haiti. Let Haiti be blessed by the new winds of the Holy Spirit.
